bl3ak Miniatures is a grimdark corner of the Warhammer universe — miniatures, conversions, painting, and the stories and lore that come from them. Expect grimdark paint-jobs, kitbashes, conversions, army projects, and dark sci-fi horror fiction told through fractured verse and short stories. bl3ak hopes to explore the side of the hobby that Games Workshop can only dip its toes into, a side of the hobby rife with John Blanche art, heavy use of enamels, and clinging dread. Nothing here is connected canon — just rogue transmissions from a bleak, unforgiving galaxy.
Site Design
So lets get the elephant in the room out of the way. This site was massively inspired by Ex-Profundis which sadly seems to have stopped posting around 2018, though the website has remained up and running ever since. I loved the dark paint schemes and the addition of short stories along with the awesomely converted miniatures, and I felt like I could do something similar. I wanted to mimick the style (not steal it, that was key), so I built this site from scratch.
The Name of the Site
bl3ak was chosen as the name for a few reasons. Originally it was (and may still be) the name I released a bunch of music under, but it was also chosen at a particularly dark time in my life, when the word “bleak” pretty much summarised my view-point on life. Time heals all wounds though, and I’m in a much better place now, and the motivation to actually do something that might inspire someone has returned. So I decided that not only was I going to put a bunch of work into this site, but I was going to make sure I regularly posted something. Even if it was just a poem or a series of images of some miniatures.
Monetisation
If the content of this site can inspire even one person to do a cool conversion or paintjob then I’ll consider all of my effort worth it. That being said, the content uploaded to this site will remain free, and I will shoulder any hosting or domain based costs. I don’t enjoy being advertised at, so you’ll never see an advert on this site. At the bottom of this page I have include a “Buy Me a Coffee” link if you feel like you would like to send me some token of appreciation. It will only live on this page. I detest begging for money, but I understand that some people feel obliged to pay people for something that they enjoyed, so if you feel that way inclined the link will be just below.
Submissions
At some point in the future I might open up a comms channel so that people can send me things to post, but at the moment I’d like to keep this based on my work for the time being. Watch this space though!
